What does "too weird to live, too rare to die" mean?
It means that a freak of human nature, a weirdo, will feel as an outsider and perhaps be better off not living. But society thrives on odd people with unique perspectives. It may be easier on the weird one to give up on life, but "we" need him around for the greater good.
Just think of all the geniuses who were miserable outsiders, but who gave society amazing contributions:

*Kurt Cobain (loved by everyone, hated himself and couldn't bear to live)
